Volunteers
The Club relies heavily on its members to volunteer and get involved with running racing and social events. Firstly it helps members to feel involved in how the Club is run, and secondly it helps to keep our subscription rates down. The main areas we seek volunteers are listed below.
Social
Our social events are organised through the House Committee which is made up of General committee and members. The House Committee is responsible for planning all social functions although catering is often contracted out. Events such as barbecues and crew pot suppers are sometimes also laid on by members. Food hygiene is an important consideration so the Club will help any members who wish to get involved in catering to obtain relevant training and certification.
Racing
The Club lays on racing throughout most of the year and as we do not employ any sailing staff all roles must be filled by volunteers, ideally drawn from among Club Members. Managing our large pool of volunteers is a busy job, and putting together efficient teams for specific events can be challenging. Anyone interested in assisting in race management is warmly invited to contact the Sailing Secretary to find out more and get involved.
Site
There are always jobs to do to maintain our marine facilities and buildings. The Hon Bosun coordinates these activities which include such things as power washing the apron and decking, looking after our boats, painting the buildings, changing the marquee from summer to winter mode and vice versa plus much, much more. Anyone interested in helping should contact the Hon Bosun and we are especially grateful to any volunteers with trade skills.
