RYA Training
CCYC is an RYA accredited training centre and offers powerboat training using the Club RIB and members’ boats. Fully qualified RYA powerboat instructors deliver training to RYA Powerboat Level 2 over a two day course both on the water and using a fully equipped training room. It is hoped to expand RYA afloat training to include the RYA Intermediate Course – Day Cruising – in the near future.
The RYA Powerboat Level Two course is a standalone course for beginners to master basic powerboat handling and gives students confidence in boat handling at high and slow speeds and in confined areas. Navigation, anchoring, recovery of a ‘Man Overboard’ (using a dummy!) are all practised along with an introduction to knots, tides, weather and safety procedures. The Club has run two successful seasons of this course and, despite the COVID restrictions, has issued nearly forty new level 2 certificates (including our commodore and his wife!)
In addition to RYA courses the Club offers training for our race management volunteers such as Marklaying and Race Management and offer winter lectures in sailing-related topics such as weather, tides, electronics, and boat building. In partnership with other clubs and local training centres we also offer members RYA shore-based training such as VHF Radio, Radar, First Aid and Diesel Engine Maintenance.
