Race Management

The Club has been organizing racing for many years and has built up a very good reputation for both Championship laid courses and round the cans type racing. We regularly host regattas of 30+ boats but have also hosted 100+ Flying 15s for their World Championships.

With the Club's new marina we are able to offer berthing as well as dry sailing for some boats – so far we have managed 12 Contessa 32s and 30 Flying 15s in our basin and hammerhead and its a great venue for your pontoon party!

The CCYC race team organize three events each year for the Cowes Keelboats such as Dragons, Darings, XODs and Etchells, these can be either committee boat or shoreline starts.  We also host numerous open events for these and other  classes each year, the Club members also contributes to the manning of Cowes Week each year.

Classes based at the CCYC are Flying 15s, Sonars, XODs and Etchells. All are involved in regular racing and the Club has hosted several of their championships in recent years

2010 Etchells Nationals

2011 Contessa 32s

2011 Etchells Southerns & Nationals

2012 2.4 Paralympic Regatta

2012 XOD Early Bird

2012 Flying 15 Southerns

2012 Etchells Southerns & Nationals

2012 Contessa 32s

2020 Cowes Spring Classics

2020 Contessa 32 Regatta

We have also been hosting smaller regattas for Benneteau 21’s, J109s and Sunsail 40s. So whatever your event we can do it! Although we mainly have one design classes we are very happy to host mixed fleet racing as well.

Don’t forget the highlight of the Club's year ‘The CCYC Forts Race’ – now in its 7th year this event is really taking off.  Run under CCYC Rating System based on information from the PY Scheme and National Handicap for Cruisers and IRC Rating.  it is an end of season finale starting off  Cowes and racing around the Portsmouth Forts and back.  The race is typically 3 - 4 hours long, any yacht, dinghy or day boat of any club is welcome and there are fantastic prizes and trophies up for grabs.  All of the races so far have had tremendously close and exciting racing and the racce is turning into a truly classic event.

Over the last three years the Club has invested heavily in training its race team both on the water and with theory sessions and RYA courses. We have ROs and mark layers from CRO to National Level and are constantly refreshing our skills. With an average of 60 days racing hosted by the club every year we are now a well oiled and capable organization so do drop us a line and see whether CCYC can host your class in the near future.
