Below are two Exclusion Zone diagrams (Full Size Exclusion Zone and Reduced Exclusion Zone) the Full Size diagram will be displayed in the 2014 Cowes Port Handbook.

When the dredger is not involved in the construction works it will be possible to reduce the size of the Exclusion Zone so that the impact on the harbour and events is minimised.

CHC are aware and fully understand the concerns of the Cowes Clubs with regards the impact of the Exclusion Zone on events and we are in continued negotiations with Boskalis Westminster and Atkins to minimise any impact, to this end we expect to conduct a trial with the dredger within the next 10 days to help ascertain the actual mooring requirements during the phases involving the dredger and pipeline during May and July/August.

Irrespective of the size of the Exclusion Zone the north west corner will be marked by the red No 2 buoy and the northern limit and north eastern corner will be marked by North Cardinal marks and I suggest referring to these buoys in the sailing instruction text along the lines of:

A breakwater Exclusion Zone marked by IALA buoyage will be established off Cowes during the construction period from May 2014 and will vary in size and shape from time to time. Boats, whether racing or preparing to race or have finished racing and in whatever direction they are sailing, shall always remain outside of the breakwater Exclusion Zone, passing to the north of the red No 2 fairway buoy and the North Cardinal Marks.The diagram below shows the maximum extent of the Exclusion Zone.
