    Commodore's Letter

In spite of the weather, we have had some good racing at the CCYC.  As always the Race Committee Team did some sterling work aboard ‘Zenobia’ for the Sonar Nationals, Cowes Week and a number of other events this season - well done to Mike Brinton and his team.

Your Commodore went north to Scotland this summer to the Royal Northern & Clyde YC in Helensburgh and competed in the 6 Metre Worlds finishing 6th overall.  Later in the season, Holland and the North Sea Championships beckoned where, aboard the Sparkman & Stephen 41 ‘Winsome’, we managed a 2nd overall.

Now the Autumn series is underway, our Sonar racing fleet seems to have grown with approximately nine boats competing. We are enjoying some excellent tussles on the water; but it would have been nice to have more Flying 15 competitors.

A change to a rather more depressing topic, namely the condition of the apron. We have received a rather alarming report regarding the apron, so to ensure the safety of the members we have had some samples of the metalwork taken away for analysis. Probably by the time you read this the results will be available. Many thanks to Chris Oldham and Jaik Tari for their help and advice.

Terry Webb continues to work tirelessly as our Development Committee Chairman. His Ark report makes interesting reading offering a definite way forward for the future of the Club and he will keep everyone fully informed of all that is happening. I would like to thank a very generous member of the club, who wishes to remain anonymous, for financing a feasibility study. We will have some very important decisions to make in the coming months to ensure the future of the Club and at the next AGM my term as your Commodore is up, therefore now is the time to think of a replacement for me.

Many thanks to Jo, not just for her office work, but also for the additional hidden efforts she makes over Cowes Week and with the Sunday lunches for the Autumn series, and Dave and team for serving up that funny stuff that makes us laugh.

Thank you Tom for being a patient Bosun. Thank you Sue for all your hard work on the social scene and good luck with your new future freed from Mantrap. Also many thanks to all the General Committee and to John Banks for producing our magazine.

May I wish you all a happy and very peaceful Christmas

Andy Cassell
